Factors for Connection Errors of Fiber Connectors

No matter how excellent the polishing and connecting skills, the false operation and damage of material also can result to connection errors. There are five factors that may contribute to connection errors, including pollution, fiber fragmentation, broken fiber, large cutting gap and the biased cleave angles.

1. Pollution
Major reasons for pollution on fiber connection:
(1) Using contaminated cutting tool (the surface of tools must be wiped by absolute alcohol).
(2) Wiping optical fiber after cutting (never wipe the optical fiber after cutting).
(3) Place the connector and optical fiber in dirty surface.
(4) Insert the broken fiber with excessive force.
One more thing to remember, once the contaminated thing has been brought into the internal connectors and contact with joining gelatin, it will be more difficult to clean out, which also means the scrap of fiber connectors.

2. Fiber fragmentation
Major reasons for fiber fragmentation:
(1) Insert the optical fiber with excessive force and cause the chips.
(2) Insert the optical fiber and cause the fragmentation.
The fragmentation may cause gaps on the fiber and even worse result to the optical faults, also the chips are difficult to clean out and the fiber connector will be scrapped.

3. Improper cutting of broken fibers 
Major reasons for improper cutting:
(1) Cut fiber with blunt or ripped blade.
(2) The cutting tools put more bending stress on the fiber.
(3) The fiber is over- bending or then bending radius is too tight.
(4) Improper or insufficient force when cutting fibers.
When the fiber is not broken or contaminated, the connectors can be cut once again.

4. The gap between pre-polished fiber and cut fiber is too large
Major reasons for large gap:
(1) The cutting fiber is too short.
(2) The fiber is not completely imported, or be pulled back when connecting.
(3) The fiber is pulled back to the sleeves when connecting in outdoors.
The over large gap may only be corrected once.

5. The biased cutting angle
The cutting angle is difficult to be perceived in connection site. Major reasons for biased cutting angle: 
(1) The cutting tools put more bending stress on the fiber.
(2) The fiber is over- bending or then bending radius is too tight.
(3) Improper or insufficient force when cutting fibers.
